WOW! I just happened to remember about The Three Investigators books I used to
read when I was a little kid, and now at 26, I can't wait to rediscover the
adventures I had while reading those books. Too bad I don't have my garbage
pail kids card too...

Hi! Great site! There is another German Homepage that you might not yet know
about: www.dreifragezeichen.de Though it is just in German, there may be some
interesting pictures in it. It is presented by the company Europa, a
subdivision of BMG Ariola Miller, which is producing the audio books. Currently
there are well over a hundred episodes in Germany and at least four are being
produced per year. But even the speaker of JJ admits that the quality of those
new episodes can´t be compared to the original 43 books. Greetings to all
???-Fans, they almost seemed to be friends in my youth ;)

I read these books from my elementary school's library back in the late
1970s-early 1980s. Now I'm almost thirty and owe my curiousity for the weird
and unusual to these books. They are so much fun to read! I hope to own the
entire paperback series published in North America. I can't remember if they
were the ones written by Robert Arthur or not. The quintessential young (and
older!) person's summer vacation (and all year 'round!) mystery/adventure
readers!!

A great page for all 3 I fans!!! I really enjoyed reading about Robert Arthur.
Apart from M.V. Carey's stories, I like his books best. But there are
nevertheless some interesting new stories from Geran writers. Finally we
managed to translate the tittles and give brief summaries of the plots (in
English). Lately, we have been busy translating passages from the German books.
Intrested? Summaries and exerpts of Jupiter's, Pete's and Bob's latest
adventures can be found at: www.rocky-beach.com (there is a small link at the

Hi to all! I'm from Germany and I like this site. By the way, the difference
between american and german ??? is rather astonishing. Let's have a closer look
to the names of our friends. Jupiter Jones is called Justus Jonas in germany,
an the 2nd investigators' german name ist Peter Shaw. Only Bob Andrews is the
same. I'm a ???-Freak and collect them as books, Cassettes and LP's. Are there
any in america as well? I don't think so, as I know, there are stories in books
only, aren't they (isn't it?)? Feel free to send an eMail, maybe with questions
or informations. Í'm very interested in the american way of ??? (in germany
they are called "Die drei Fragezeichen", that means "The three
questionmarks", I'm quit sure it sounds funny to you...) Last but not
least: America, I'm with you Skinni Norris

German-only books are out there featuring our trio in new adventures. Speaking
of which, I am planning on posting a short novel based on the Jupe, Pete, &
Bob at my website, www.darkwonders.com. This is my little tribute to a great
series of books that delighted me in grade school and then later in high school

Thanks for doing such an extensive background on the creators, and characters
of my childhood. I knew that the books gained popularity in Germany, but had no
idea that they almost doubled the number of books in the original series. Are
any of those books available in English? Also, I would love to write some new
books for the American series. Does Random House still own the rights? These
characters were such a great creation, it almost seems sad to let them die. I
would love for my children, and their children to have new and exciting Three
Investigators books to read. T3I are what got me as a young and
not-so-interested boy into reading in the first place. Let's all try to keep
their legacy alive. Gary Chaika Cedarbrook, New Jersey

I love the three investigatots so much that I bought the first two books in
english (although it is not my mother tongue). But I was really disappointed
that the name "Alfred Hitchcock" was completely canceled and

Great site! Did you know that in Germany they changed two of the names into
Justus Jonas and Peter Shaw? In Germany they have radio plays of each Three
Investigators story ever published, and the Three Investigators are known there
because of these radio plays in the first place. In Germany a man or a woman
called Aiga Rasch painted all the covers for the radio play cassettes.

lack of cases to solve. Long live three investigators and such similiar great

Great site. I noticed another link with Robert Arthur and Bob Andrews. While
reading Stuttering Parrot, I noticed that the copyright page said
"Copyright renewed by Elizabeth Arthur and Robert Andrew Arthur"!
(His son?) Which came first I don't know, (I don't know the latter's age) but I
would assume he named his son first and the character after him.

This is a very good site. Unlike so much on the Internet, it contains useful
information which cannot be found elsewhere. I read some of the 3I books
growing up and enjoyed them. My favorite was #22--DEAD MAN'S RIDDLE. As an
adult, I have done a fair amount of research on juvenile series books, with
special emphasis on the Stratemeyer Syndicate series (Tom Swift, Nancy Drew,
Hardy Boys, etc). I am writing a SERIES BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA which shares some of
the goals of this site, to correct the vast sea of misinformation about these
kinds of books and their creators. I am also the area chair for the Popular
Culture Association section which specializes in dime novels, pulp magazines
and juvenile series books. I wrote the entry on the Three Investigators for the
ENCYCLOPEDIA OF POPULAR CULTURE though I have to admit that it includes reference
to "Robert Arthur Feder" as the full name of Robert Arthur. I was
especially surprised to see the information about Kin Platt being "Nick
West" for those two volumes. Two of the Robert Arthur titles are amazingly
similar to volumes written in the 1920s by "Leo Edwards" (Edward
Edson Lee) -- STUTTERING PARROT and WHISPERING MUMMY. The timing would be
pretty good for Robert Arthur to have seen these books, even as an adult. Has
the family any information on this? Finally, I would like to know more details
about how the series decided to use "Hector Sebastian" as the
fictional film director with whom our heroes consult. Obviously, this occurred
after Alfred Hitchcock's death in 1980. My web site is http://keeline.com where
I have much of my shorter research articles published.

Here's a fan calling from Singapore, Asia! Got my 1st 3 Investigator book The
Whispering Mummy, and since then I've received some donations from my cousins
who had once read 'em too. Sadly, I couldn't find any stock of these enjoyable
books, so for now I'm just re-reading and re-reading the books I had...

There seems to be a common theme through these entries. Many people in their
30's rediscovering the 3 Inv. Alas even me. I had the original 43 with many
hardcovers. Unfortunately due to uncontrollabel forces, they are all gone,
(destroyed). But its good to see so many people interested as I will try to
regain the series. Wish me luck. -Lee

I’m a 34-year-old guy who loved the Three Investigators as a kid. (My sister
& I competed to see who could read the whole series first.) I know I should
be reading work related documents, but I’m going to relive all the good times
& pleasure I received from reading my Three Investigators books by reading
them again. Great Site. P.S. Where can I purchase the complete set of the Three
Investigator series for my kids?

loved as a child. Books were my major joy, and none moreso than the Three
investigators! Reading them was like being in on a great secret. Im just now
starting to go back and buy all the old hardbacks to relive those great times!
Thanks for the site!

I first read the 3 investigators in the late 70s and early 80s: a few of us
would devour every one we could get our hands on! Then we started
collecting...! I still have the whole set up to number 31 (I couldn't bring
myself to get the later ones, once Hitchcock died and no longer
"sponsored" them) and I'd never get rid of them. I'll be introducing
them to my kids, and I agree with a previous writer: they were always HEAPS better
than the Hardy Boys. Good to see that they may be coming back into print. Great
site, too.

Thanks for this site. I'm 37 and I first read the Three Investigator's about
thirty years ago in the early 70's. They provided me with many hours of
excitment and pleasure. I always found them much better written and more
interesting than The Hardy Boys. Thanks again for all the info on Robert
Arthur. He created some great character's for children and adults to treasure
for years to come

I discovered the Investigators in my school library when I was in the fourth
grade. They became my constant companions for the next several years. I'll
never forget how their "friendship" helped me through a childhood
that sucked. The smell of the pages and the feel of the smooth hardbound covers
always promised me a new adventure in a strange place with my good friends. I
miss creeping into old buildings and slipping through the Green Gate with
Jupiter, Pete and Bob. As I get ready to turn 30, it gives me an overwhelming
sense of comfort and connectedness to know that there are so many others out
there who love the guys...and so many who are still reading. I know I'll spend
my 30s collecting as many of the old books as I can. Thanks for the site, and
thanks for those who've shared their memories.

think that would make the biography info accurate. :-) Loved these books when I
was young, and have them all for my children to read. Thanks!

Fantastic to see a site devoted to the 3i's. I first read them 20 years ago
now, (Secret of Skeleton Island), as was hooked at that time. Unfortuantely, I
let my collection go and now, all this time later, I'm retracing the route
through Tunnel Two. Great site, great memories...gotta start recollecting
now???

Cool site! It's great to know that the three investigators still have a loyal
fanbase. I first read them when I was seven (nearly twenty years ago!) and
simply couldn't get enough of them for the next seven or eight years. My
favourite investigator was Bob and my favourite book had to be The Mystery of
the Green Ghost, closely folloed by The Mystery of the Invisible Dog, which was
actually pretty scary! Thanks for the info on Robert Arthur, always wondered
who he was! Keep up the good work.

This is a great site. My sister-in-law introduced me to the 3 Investigators
(through our 2ndhand children's bookshop on the internet, The Little Bookroom)
- she has been a fan since childhood - and I'm glad to see there are so many
fans of the 3 Investigators out there! I have a question - I've noticed there
are a whole lot of German titles that were originally written in German. Have
these already been translated into English? and if not, what would be the
likelihood of a publisher being interested in English versions? I ask because
(among other career personas of musician and primary school teacher) I'm an
accredited translator of German to English... and if there is a market there,
I'd certainly be interested. E-mail me if you can tell me anything about how
/where to go about finding out about this.
